This year customs officers at Polish-Russian border checkpoints have certified 179,900 tax-free forms with a total value of PLN 179 milllion (EUR 43 mn) for Russian shoppers. This marks a significant uptick compared to 2016 when Russian shoppers produced invoices worth PLN 153 million in total.

The most common products purchased by Russian tourists in Poland include electronic devices and clothing.

"The amounts of money spent by Russian citizens in Poland and other EU countries point to a hike in shopping tourism," Ryszard Chudy, from the Revenue Administration Chamber in the northeastern city of Olsztyn, said.

The number of tax-free forms presented by Russian shoppers at customs and the total value of purchases are growing steadily despite the falling rate of the rouble, he added. (aba/gs)
