The move will improve the quality of life in the Polish capital, said the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Crețu.

She added that the electric buses should help reduce car traffic and improve air quality.

The buses are expected to appear on the streets of Warsaw at the beginning of 2021.

The cash for the project comes from the EU’s Cohesion Fund, which aims to reduce economic and social disparities in the bloc and to promote sustainable development.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said earlier this week that replacing combustion-engine cars with electric vehicles in the future would increase Poland’s energy independence and reduce pollution.
