The data was released following the Warsaw debate of the Social Dialogue Council, a forum for cooperation between representatives of workers, employers and the government.

Poland’s foreign workforce is chiefly of Ukrainian, Nepalese, Indian and Moldovan origin, Szwed said.

As opposed to previous years when foreigners would largely be employed in the agricultural sector, in recent years they have shifted to posts in construction, the food industry, transport, trade and domestic help.

The overall number of permits issued in 2017 rose by 85 percent compared to the previous year, Szwed said.

Foreign workers account for 2.5-5 percent of the Polish labour market, Szwed added. (aba)
