Poland could otherwise lose its competitive edge in drawing IT specialists from abroad and face a brain drain, the paper added.

The IT sector is demanding an decrease in personal income tax for IT professionals.

The sector also wants coding to be legally regarded as a research and development activity, which would allow programmers to gain a preferential 50 percent rate of tax-deductible expenses.

It is estimated that the Polish labour market is short of at least 50,000 IT experts, whereas 80 percent of Polish programmers are willing to emigrate for work, the Rzeczpospolita daily reported. (aba/pk)
