The average farmer earned PLN 12,700 (EUR 3,000) more in 2017 than the year before, the institute's director, Andrzej Kowalski, said.

He added that the value of farm production grew some 12 percent year-on-year, while costs increased by two percent.

Livestock and dairy production brought the most profits last year, while orchards and crops were the least profitable, Kowalski said.

He added that large farms in Poland's west and northwest made the biggest financial gains last year. (vb)
