The report commissioned by the Polish Business Council said that entrepreneurs -- defined as people who run their own business and have at least one employee -- are collectively the most important employer in the country.

Last year there were 662,000 entrepreneurs in Poland running 884,000 companies and employing 3.9 million people.

Polish businesses employ just over four people each on average, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The typical Polish entrepreneur is a man aged under 45 with a secondary education.

In 2016, the country’s entrepreneurs invested a total of PLN 145 billion (EUR 33.7 billion, USD 39.8 billion) in their businesses, three times more than companies with foreign capital, IAR reported.
