The money from the EU’s Cohesion Fund will be pumped into building a new section of the S17 expressway between the junctions of Góraszka, east of the capital, and Garwolin, further to the south-east, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The new section is due to be opened next autumn, the agency said.

European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas was cited by IAR as saying the new road would improve safety, make journeys easier for drivers and cut travel times.

The S17 road is part of an international route and connects Poland with Ukraine.
