Polish retail sales up in August: stats office

Retail sales in Poland rose 9 percent in August compared with the same month last year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Friday.

Sales of fuels climbed 21 percent in year-on-year terms, while sales of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose 12.5 percent.

Sales of clothing and shoes increased by 12.1 percent.

When expressed in constant prices, retail sales in August were 6.7 percent higher than in the same month last year, according to the statistics office.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in August were 0.9 percent higher than in July, the Central Statistical Office reported.
