Jadwiga Emilewicz was speaking after the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in a flash estimate earlier on Thursday that the Polish economy grew 5.1 percent in 2018, in line with analysts’ expectations.

"After a very good 2017, 2018 was even better," Emilewicz said.

She added: “This is one of the best results in Europe."

Emilewicz said private consumption, which increased 4.5 percent year on year in 2018, was the key driver of the Polish economy.

A rise in average wages, low unemployment and relatively low inflation have helped Poles feel more confident about their household budgets, state news agency PAP reported.

In 2017, Poland’s gross domestic product expanded by 4.8 percent, according to the Central Statistical Office.

Polish senators this month approved the country’s budget for 2019, which expects the economy to grow 3.8 percent, with inflation targeted at 2.3 percent.
