“First of all, [banks should] take into account the negative LIBOR rate, on the other hand, they should allow interested parties to switch their loan currency from [Swiss] francs to [Polish] złoty at no commission at a rate equal to the average rate of the National Bank of Poland on the date of the switch,” Piechociński told a conference on Wednesday.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the banks should give up requesting additional collateral for loans.

‘Sufficient’

In separate news, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski met Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek on Wednesday to assess how effective government proposals are for helping Swiss-franc mortgage holders.

"It seems that for the moment what has been proposed is sufficiently beneficial for people with Swiss franc loans," Reuters agency quoted presidential advisor Olgierd Dziekoński as saying, adding that "For now we have no proposals for major changes in the law." (rg)
