“Despite not very optimistic political news from the East, 57.2 percent of Poles polled have hopes of avoiding conflict [this year].

"This reflects those who could theoretically expand the numbers of the Polish army – males up to the age of 24, but also people who conduct more of a stable lifestyle – between the age of 35 to 49 years,” Przemysław Wesołowski, from pollster SW Research, said.

He adds that such an opinion is mostly prevalent among the residents of large and medium-sized cities.

An aura of uncertainty has surrounded the conflict, according to Newsweek Polska, which commissioned the poll.

Almost a third of respondents, 31.5 percent, were uncertain whether such a war could erupt this year.

“Most of the indecisive were females over the age of 50, and people living in smaller municipalites and villages,” Wesołowski noted. (rg)
