Merkel complimented Szydło on the recent win of her Law and Justice (PiS) party in the 25 October general elections.
The PiS press office reported the conversation between the two politicians.
“Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated the [party’s] victory in the parliamentary elections and expressed hope for fruitful Polish-German relations,” the communique reads.
It added that Merkel stressed that next year "could be dominated by the celebration of the 25th anniversary of [the treaty which normalised] Polish-German bilateral relations”.
“Chancellor [Merkel] invited Beata Szydlo to pay a visit to Berlin, and expressed a willingness to continue intergovernmental consultations in the future,” the statement read. (rg/rk)
