In the speech, the president will tackle issues including "Poland’s position in the European Union" and the country’s upcoming role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Krzysztof Szczerski said, as quoted by Poland’s PAP news agency.

Addressing an audience of foreign ambassadors in Warsaw on January 11, President Duda will also outline his international policy objectives in 2018, according to Szczerski, who is the Polish president's chief of staff and his chief foreign policy adviser.

Poland was chosen as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2018-2019 term in a vote in early June.

The country’s Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said at the time that "non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council is an instrument of global influence that provides an opportunity for a political say in resolving international conflicts."

He added that membership raises a country’s profile internationally, which could translate into economic benefits.
