Haratyk produced a throw of 21.72 metres while Bukowiecki threw 21.66 metres.

Germany’s David Storl took the bronze with 21.41 metres.

Poles won four medals in total at the championships on Tuesday. The shot put successes came after Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki earlier won gold and Paweł Fajdek took silver in the men’s hammer throw at the championships.

Polish sports bosses have said they are hoping for eight medals in Berlin. A record 86 Polish competitors are taking part in the championships.

Poland finished top of the league in terms of medals at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in 2016, with six golds, five silvers and one bronze.
