The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were established by the International Olympic Committee in 2007, and the first summer version was held in Singapore in 2010.

The games are open to contestants who are 18 years-old or younger.

28 sports are included in the schedule, including badminton, boxing, football, handball, rowing, tennis and weightlifting. Rugby sevens and golf are novelties for the 2014 edition.

Besides Kamila Pasternak, who has won three medals to date in the European Cadet Judo Championships, Poland has high hopes for two other young ladies, wrestler Natalia Strzalka and boxer Elzbieta Wojcik.

Among the male members of the team, shot-putter Konrad Bukowiecki is among the top contestants for a medal.

The II Summer Youth Olympic Games run from 16 August to 28 August. (nh)
