Legia fans showed anger at being kicked out of the Champions League on a technicality by unveiling a huge banner during the 2 – 0 defeat of FK Aktobe in the Europa League, Thursday.

Legia go through to the Europa League group stage after the 3 – 0 on aggregate victory over the Kazakh side, with goals from Michał Kucharczyk (26 minute) and Ivica Vrdoljak (65-penalty) during the home leg at the Pepsi Stadium in Warsaw after a 1 - 0 away victory in the first leg last week.

The draw for the Europa League group stages will take place on Friday.

But Legia fans are still smarting from their elimination from the Champions League for fielding an ineligible player during their qualifier against Glasgow Celtic.

The fans unveiled a banner before the match against Aktobe, Thursday night, showing a UEFA pig wearing a tie, with '6 – 1' beneath it: the score they beat the Scottish side before being illuminated.

A slogan, clearly aimed at the European football governing body, said:"'Because football doesn't matter – money does".

After Celtic lost the qualifying tie in the Champions League against Maribor on Wednesday, however, Legia Warszawa tweeted “#footballwon”.

It is now possible that Legia could meet Celtic in the Europa League group stage, after the Scottish side also dropped into Europe's less lucrative second tier competition. (pg)
