Poland topple Brazil in world volleyball thriller

Poland pulled off an historic victory over defending champions Brazil in a five set thriller in the last six of the World Volleyball Championships at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Tuesday night.

The third round showdown in Pool H came after Poland won seven of their eight matches in the competition so far.

Mariusz Wlazly was once again man of the match for the Poles, scoring 31 points on the night and helping Poland beat Brazil for the first time in a world championship in four decades.

Poland next play Olympic champions Russia in what has been called the 'group of death'.

In Pool G, France beat Germany in straight sets. (pg)
