''Fans have a difficult task in store,'' commented TVP Sport director Włodzimierz Szaranowicz at a press conference in Warsaw.

''This year was an exceptionally good year for Polish sport,'' he enthused.

''We haven't had so many thrills, successes and titles in a long time, starting with the Winter Olympics in Sochi, and running through the world championships in cycling and volleyball.''

The nominees include ski-jumper Kamil Stoch, winner of two gold medals in Sochi as well as the World Cup title. Fellow Sochi medallist Zbigniew Brodka, who was a speed-skating sensation at the games, is also in the running.

Other favourites include Mariusz Wlazly, star of Men's World Volleyball Championship, which Poland won on 21 September in a nail-biting final against Brazil.

Also nominated is cycling newcomer Rafal Majka, who won the mountains classification in the Tour de France.

Fans can vote over the internet until 10 January, or by using coupons published by Przeglad Sportowy (until the end of the year). (nh)
