The 32-year-old was honoured for his honesty during his quarter-final doubles clash at the 2014 Australian Open.

Kubot and his Swedish partner Robert Lindstedt had been awarded a point in the third and deciding set of their clash with Belarusian Max Mirnyi and Russian Mikhail Youzhny.

The umpire awarded a point to Kubot and his partner, yet while no one protested, Kubot confessed to an error, and the point was awarded to the Russians.

Thankfully, fortune smiled on Kubot and Lindstedt, who went on to win the Australian Open doubles title.

Kubot told Polish Radio that he will treasure receiving the award as one of the highlights of his career.

''There was a lot of money and prestige running [on that match],'' he reflected.

''But although there's a battle on, and there's aggression in the game - you have to stay fair,'' he added.

''We go out onto the court, we fight from the beginning to the end, everyone wants to win, everyone has their own individual approach, but we have to remember to play fair.'' (nh)
