Kenyan Limo Kiprop wins Warsaw half-marathon

Although the weather was a bit colder than expected, thousands of runners turned up to compete in the annual half-marathon in the Polish capital Warsaw on Sunday.

“The winner of the 10th Warsaw PZU half-marathon was Limo Kiprop (Kenya), who covered the [route] in 1:00:52,” read an official statemnt by the organisers.

Also on the podium were John Lotiang (Kenya) with a time of 1:01:17, and Boniface Kongin (Kenya), who completed the half marathon in 1:02:10.

This year's Warsaw half marathon covered a distance of 21.1 km.

This year's result was not far from the record for 22-year old Limo, whose half-marathon record is 59.55 minutes, according to the International Association of Athletic Federations.

Runner Adam Nowicki was the first Pole to cross the finishing line, while Ethiopian athlete Amane Beriso was the first female to complete the course.

The Warsaw event which is held yearly was first organised in 2006. It attracts runners from around the globe. (rg)
