Although Radwańska is currently No. 13 in the WTA ranking and Hradecka No.52, the Czech player had never lost to the Pole before in a one-on-one fixture, even though the two had not met on court for several years.

However, Radwanska made short shrift of her opponent.

The Kraków-born player comes to Wimbledon in the wake reaching the final on Saturday of Eastbourne, a grass tournament that is considered to be a warm up for the Grand Slam showdown. Radwańska made the final of Wimbledon in 2012, ultimately losing to Serena Williams.

Tuesday's success follows on from her younger sister Urszula's convincing first round win on Monday against American Edina Gallovits-Hall (6-2, 6-1).

In the men's competition, former semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz disappointed fans by losing to Turk Marsel Ilhan in the first round. (nh)
