The match echoed the Wimbledon women's final of 2012, when Williams took the title, leaving Radwańska striving for a Grand Slam triumph ever since.

Williams, currently World No.1, wasted no time in getting down to business, notching up 18 aces in the first set, ultimately not dropping a single game in the opening session.

Radwańska (World No.4) managed to recover some of her dignity in the second set, taking four games.

However, Williams was clearly the stronger competitor in spite of the Pole's superlative record over the last four months (Radwańska has won four WTA tournaments since September).

The American champ now goes into her seventh Australian Open final.

I'm really excited to be in another final; it kind of blows my mind," she said.

I just feel like I'm playing the best I can and I can't believe I'm in the final!”

Of the four Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open), Radwańska's closest brush with victory was at the 2012 final at Wimbledon. However, she won the prestigious WTA Tour Finals in September 2015, marking her 18th WTA title overall. (nh/pk)
