Kawęcki claims victory at European Championships

Poland's Radosław Kawęcki won gold in men's 200m backstroke final at the European Swimming Championships in London on Saturday.

The Polish swimmer finished in 1:55.98, defending his title and moving up to fifth in the world rankings.

Israel's Yakov Yan Toumarkin (1:56.97) came second, followed by Lithuania's Danas Rapsys (1:57.22).

The double world champion has his eyes now set on the Olympic Games, which open in Rio de Janeiro this August.

In 2012, Kawęcki came fourth in the 200m backstroke at the Olympics in London.

Saturday also marked a victory for Konrad Czerniak who took silver in men's 200m butterfly. (aba)
