“I sincerely congratulate all those Olympic nominees with all my heart. It must be an amazing experience to be able to participate in the Olympics. I'm a little jealous that I cannot also be part of the squad. It must be an amazing thing to be such an athlete, coach, excellent physiotherapist, mechanic or other person working with the team to be be on the list of Olympians – to be able to take part in the biggest sport festival in the world,” Duda told the Polish Olympic squad at a ceremony in Warsaw on Friday.
“Certainly this involves unimaginable hardship. Suffering and pain, while success is not always forthcoming,” the Polish President said.
“I'm not here merely to congratulate you, but I'm also there to thank you [...] You will represent Poland and Poles.”
A total of 243 athletes are expected to represent Poland in 23 sports at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, which start on 5 August. (rg)
