Przygoński, driving a Mini, is now 10 minutes and 47 seconds behind France’s Sebastien Loeb in the car section.

The second stage on Tuesday saw drivers covering over 800 kilometres from Resistencia to San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, in temperatures reaching 48 degrees C.

Przygoński told Poland’s PAP news agency: “There was a lot of mud and puddles... We had to slow down in places, so as not to overheat the car, but the result is good.

“Our Mini reached 195 km an hour, so in places it was quick,” added Przygoński, whose car was completely covered in mud after the stage.

In the third stage on Wednesday, the racers face a route of 780 km from San Miguel de Tucuman to San Salvador de Jujuy in northwest Argentina.
