His countryman Piotr Żyła came second while Poland’s Maciej Kot finished fourth.

In the final stage of the 65th Four Hills tournament, held in Bischofshofen, Austria, Stoch finished first, soaring 138.5 metres.

He is the second Pole to win the tournament, following in the footsteps of Adam Małysz, who won the event in 2001.

Celebrating his win, the jubilant 2013 world champion and double 2014 Olympic champion said: "I'm really satisfied, happy, glad... thank you to all those people who helped me: my team-mates, my coaches, my family, my fans."

Stoch's win came despite sustaining a shoulder injury during a fall in Innsbruck on Wednesday.
