"It was maybe not my best match, but what counts is winning and advancing to the semi-finals," said Radwańska, who won the Sydney tournament in 2013.

The Pole is currently no. 3 in the WTA world ranking, while her Chinese opponent is no. 103.

Wednesday’s match was the Pole’s second in this year's Sydney event.

On Tuesday, Radwańska beat America’s Christina McHale 7: 6 (7-1), 6: 1. She had a bye in the opening round.

In the semifinals, the Pole will play Czech Barbora Strycova.
