Zieliński was last week disqualified for four years by Poland’s Commission Against Doping in Sports.

Last year Zieliński was thrown out of the Polish Olympic team and sent home from Rio de Janeiro together with his brother Tomasz Zieliński after testing positive for a banned substance.

In his statement, Adrian Zieliński said he was “extremely surprised by the harsh penalty” and said he would appeal against the decision.

He also said he had taken the banned substance, called nandrolone, unknowingly in a tainted nutritional supplement.

Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid that can help athletes enhance their performance. (str/pk)
