According to media reports, Krychowiak showed up for a training session injured, and an X-ray scan on Tuesday ruled him out of the match against Montenegro.
Poland has a three-point advantage over the Balkan team in Group E in the qualifying round. Out of the four games it has already played in the round, Poland won three – against Denmark, Armenia and Romania – and drew one, against Kazakhstan.
Krychowiak, who is a defensive midfielder for French club Paris Saint-Germain, played for 90 minutes in all those international matches.
Sunday's hotly-anticipated match at the Goricom stadium starts at 8.45 pm CET.
