The opening ceremony at Stadion Wrocław will launch 10 days of competition.

Some 3,500 competitors from more than 100 countries are expected at the event, which will feature teams sports including tug of war, lifesaving, boules and floorball.

Deputy Sports Minister Jarosław Stawiarski said the World Games will “definitely” be Poland’s largest sporting event this year.

“We’re very happy they will be held in Poland because it is a chance for non-Olympic sporting associations to be shown to a wider audience,” he said.

The World Games have been held every four years since 1981. (vb/pk)
