Kenya’s Stellah Jepngetich Barsosio won the women’s event with a time of 2:33.01.

The top-placed Pole in the event in the southern city of Kraków was Łukasz Kapłon, who came eighth with a time of 2:29.41.

The fastest Polish woman was Paulina Lipska, covering the 42 km route with a time of 2:56.00 to finish 86th.

Over 5,700 competitors took part in the marathon. Kapłon said light rain helped rather than hindered him.

"I’m very pleased because I was aiming for a result within two hours and 32 minutes. The weather conditions helped me today," Kapłon said.
