He takes over from Talant Duyshebaev, who offered his resignation after a string of poor performances during qualifiers dashed Poland’s hopes of a place in the 2018 European championships.

"The main goal for the new national team coach is to advance to the Olympic Games in Tokyo" in 2020, the Polish handball federation said in a statement.

Przybecki pledged to “do everything to fulfill my goals - to advance to the Olympic Games and build a strong team capable of winning against the most dangerous opponents.”

Przybecki will take over as coach in the first half of June. He will lead the Polish team against Romania and Serbia that month in its last matches in the qualifying round for the European championships.

Duyshebaev coached the Polish men's handball squad from February 2016. The team just missed a podium spot at the Rio Olympics last year and took 17th place in the world championships in France in January.
