His countryman Marcin Lewandowski came fifth in the event on Thursday with a time of 1.46.51.

Poland’s Kamila Lićwinko took the silver in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.96 metres.

Kszczot took the lead on the last straight. It was his third race this season. In Shanghai, in another Diamond League event, he ran a time of 1.45.45, and on 4 June in Radom, Poland, he notched up a result of 1.47.30.

"The first 150 metres were very fast and then the race ‘died’... I had to change pace some three-four times, and that costs a lot of energy and strength,” Kszczot said after Thursday’s race.
