Poland started on ahead with Patryk Lipski scoring the first goal in the 53rd second of the game.

However, the score was evened out by Slovakia's Martin Valjent in the 20th minute. The fate of the game was sealed by Slovak forward Pavol Šafranko, who managed to get the ball in the net just a few minutes before the final whistle.

Bartosz Kapustka, Poland's midfielder, told UEFA.com: “We had hoped for a good opening game for us. We scored early, but after that, Slovakia were the better team. The atmosphere was great. We knew the first game would be very important for us, but Slovakia were better than us after our good start and deserved to win.”

Poland will next play against Sweden on 19 June. (rg)
