Poland's Tomek Adamek has made a triumphant comeback to heavyweight boxing, beating Australia's Solomon Haumono 3:0 (99:91, 99:91, 100:90) in Gdańsk, northern Poland, on Saturday.

Tomasz Adamek set foot in the ring for the first time since his technical knockout in the round ten of a match against America's Eric Molina, after which he announced his retirement from the sport.

Adamek, with two fractured ribs, was faster than his 11-kilogram heavier rival on Saturday, and while his punches largely bounced off Haumono as he looked to a strategic play, the Australian was losing points by taking hits instead of making them.

“For three weeks at a training camp, my trainer gave be a really hard time. I was dying, but after this fight, I am not tired and I could keep boxing for five more rounds,” Adamek said.

“I feel Haumono took a lot of hits because I have a busted left hand. He's a tough competitor but he did not threaten me at all,” he added. (vb)
