Poland wins gold at Canoe Sprint European Championships

Poland has won one gold, four silver and four bronze medals at the Canoe Sprint European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Poland's Wiktor Głazunow, Piotr Kuleta, Tomasz Barniak and Marcin Grzybowski finished first in the C4 men's 1000-metre race.

In the K1 women's 1000-metre race, Beata Mikołajczyk came second behind Hungary's Dora Bodonyi.

She, together with Dominika Włodarczyk, Anna Puławska and Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, came second to Hungary again in the K4 women's 500.

Mikołajczyk and Puławska won bronze in the K2 women's 500-metre event, coming in behind the German and Slovenian teams, while Włodarczyk and Kołodziejczyk won bronze in the K2 women's 200-metre race, losing to Ukrainian and Portuguese duos.

Karolina Markiewicz and Julia Lis lost to Hungary, coming second in the K2 women's 1000 -metre race.

Poland's Martin Brzeziński, Rafał Rosolski, Bartosz Stabno and Norbert Kucziński were a fraction of a second ahead of the Slovakian team to take second place behind Spain in the K4 men's 1000-metre.

Bronze medals were also awarded to Tomasz Kaczor in the C1 men's 500 and to Mateusz Kamiński in the C1 men's 5000. (vb)
