Robert Lewandowski, a Bayern Munich forward and the captain of Poland’s national football squad, has been placed ninth in a poll for UEFA's Best Player in Europe Award.

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Real Madrid, Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who plays for Barcelona, and Italian Gianluigi Buffon, who captains Juventus, are in the top three.
Coaches from 80 of Europe’s top teams and 55 journalists were polled.
The winner will be announced on 24 August. (vb/pk)
