Polish squad gears up for Taipei summer university games

A total of 181 Polish athletes are gearing up to compete in the 29th Summer Universiade games for university athletes in Taipei.

The Polish national team will include 54 track-and-fielders, among them London world championship medallists Paweł Fajdek, Malwina Kopron, Iga Baumgart, Aleksandra Gaworska and Małgorzata Hołub.

Also competing for medals in Taiwan will be 24 Polish fencers and 22 swimmers, among them Konrad Czerniak, Kacper Majchrzak and Alicja Tchórz.

Poland is also fielding competitors in events such as badminton, gymnastics, golf, judo, basketball, archery, weightlifting, diving, taekwondo, tennis and table tennis.

The Taipei Universiade takes place from 19 to 30 August in Taiwan.

The Universiade is a sporting event held every two years for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation. (str/pk)
