Manchester City “have put the wheels in motion to try and secure” the Polish striker from German club Bayern Munich in January's transfer window, according to British tabloid The Sun.

Lewandowski recently criticised Bayern’s transfer policy in a press interview in which he suggested the club was not spending enough money to bring in new talent.

According to The Sun, Lewandowski “has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich and Manchester City are keen to capitalise on the situation.”

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is behind the effort to bring in Lewandowski, according to The Sun. The two worked together when Guardiola coached Bayern before he was replaced by Italian Carlo Ancelotti a year and a half ago.

Meanwhile, there has also been recurring speculation in the media that Lewandowski is interested in playing for Real Madrid.
