Poland to plough millions into sports facilities

Sports Minister Witold Bańka announced on Thursday that Poland would earmark over PLN 500 million (EUR 117m, USD 139m) next year for developing the country’s sports facilities.

Bańka said his ministry’s budget would next year increase to a “historical” PLN 1.1 billion.

He added that subsidies would be available for facilities such as sports and athletic fields, swimming pools and sports halls.

Meanwhile, the Legia Warsaw club’s Football Academy will receive a subsidy of PLN 11 million in 2017-18, the PAP news agency reported.

Bańka and Prime Minister Beata Szydło earlier this year launched a new drive to support local sports clubs and foster young talent.
