The Pole, who is ranked 74th by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), on Friday defeated WTA No. 122 Arina Rodionova of Australia 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the qualifying stage for the WTA Premier 5 tournament in Wuhan, China.

She will now take on WTA No. 202 Lu Jing-Jing of China in the second and final round of qualifying for the tournament's main draw.

This year is the second time Linette is seeking a spot in the main draw of the Wuhan tournament. In 2015, she did not manage to get past the qualifying stage.

On Wednesday, Linette crashed out of the Toray Pan Pacific Open WTA Premier tournament in Tokyo, Japan after being overpowered by the Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova. (gs/pk)
