Poland’s tennis darling Agnieszka Radwańska on Sunday overpowered Germany's Carina Witthoeft to advance to the second round of the China Open.

The Pole won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, taking the first step in her campaign to defend her title at the Beijing tournament.
Radwańska will now take on China’s Zhang Shuai, who saw off Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
Radwańska, who is currently ranked 13th by the Women’s Tennis Association, defeated Britain’s Johanna Konta in last year's final in the Chinese capital, and she also won the tournament in 2011. (gs/pk)
