Lewandowski, who plays for Bayern Munich and also captains Poland’s national squad, scored 53 goals in all club and international appearances this calendar year, as many as Real Madrid’s Ronaldo and Paris Saint-Germain’s Cavani.

England's Harry Kane from the Premier League's Tottenham Hotspur club has topped the table, with 56 goals this year.

On Tuesday, Kane netted a hat trick in his team’s 5-2 Premier League win against Southampton, becoming the league's all-time highest goal scorer in a calendar year.

Barcelona’s Argentinian ace Lionel Messi finishes 2017 second behind Kane, on 54 goals.
