The Polish rider, a former world champion, beat Damiano Cruso of Italy by 24 seconds overall in the annual seven-stage race.

Britain’s Geraint Thomas finished the race third overall, 32 seconds behind Kwiatkowski.

The Pole placed 12th in the race’s seventh and last individual time-trial stage around San Benedetto del Tronto on Tuesday. He conceded 20 seconds to the winner, Australian Rohan Dennis, but increased his advantage over Cruso, his closest rival.
