The referee suspended a premier-league match on Sunday between Lech Poznań and Legia Warsaw in the 77th minute after a group of Lech supporters set off flares, causing thick smoke to belch out across the pitch.

Several dozen fans ran out into the field and were chased off by some 200 riot police. Football authorities awarded Legia a 3-0 win by default.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said he expects decisive action to be taken against hooligans.

Regional authorities have punished Lech Poznań by ordering it to close its stadium to the public for eight games, both Polish league and Europa League matches.

Police have detained 28 people over the trouble.

Prosecutors said that fans found guilty of disrupting a mass gathering and masking their faces could face up to five years in jail.
