Football: Poland ties 2-2 with Chile in pre-World Cup friendly

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute, which was quickly followed with another by Piotr Zieliński.

Chile responded with a header in the 38th minute, taking the score to 2:1, and equalised the score early in the second half.

It was the Polish squad's second-last friendly before the World Cup in Russia.

The Poles face Lithuania in Warsaw on Tuesday and fly to their training base Sochi, Russia, on Wednesday.

The 2018 football World Cup kicks off on June 14 with a match between the host nation and Saudi Arabia at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium.

In all, teams from 32 countries will have played a total of 64 matches at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities by the time the World Cup ends on July 15.

Poland will play Senegal in Moscow on June 19, before facing Colombia on June 24 and Japan on June 28 in the group stage of the tournament. (vb/pk)
