Manager Adam Nawałka is quitting after Poland’s disappointing performance at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Polish media have speculated that Nawałka could be replaced by Slovenia’s Srečko Katanec, Serbia’s Siniša Mihajlović or Croatia’s Slaven Bilić.

Poland failed to advance to the knockout phase of the World Cup in Russia after losing 1-2 to Senegal and 0-3 to Colombia in the group stage. Poland won its final game, beating Japan 1-0, but finished bottom of Group H.

Nawałka had coached the Polish squad since 2013, taking the Poles to the quarterfinals of the European championships in France two years ago.

Zbigniew Boniek, the head of Polish football’s governing body, said last week: "I have seen six or seven managers’ CVs. The most important task (for Nawałka’s successor) will be the ‘March 2019’ project, that is preparing the squad for the European championship qualifiers.”
