Rising Polish tennis star makes junior Wimbledon final

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has reached the final of the junior tournament at the Wimbledon championships in London.

The 17-year-old Pole on Friday defeated China’s Xinyu Wang 7-5, 7-6(1) in the women’s singles semifinals of the junior Wimbledon event.

Świątek was on Saturday set to take on Switzerland’s Leonie Kung in the championship match.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Alicja Rosolska on Friday crashed out of the main professional Wimbledon tournament together with her American doubles partner Abigail Spears.

Rosolska and Spears lost 5-7, 4-6 to Czech pair Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the women’s doubles semifinals.

Friday’s match in London marked Rosolska’s first-ever Grand Slam semifinal.

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwańska crashed out of Wimbledon in the second round of the women's singles.
