With the competition set to return in September, Polish defenders Łukasz Piszczek and Kamil Glik saw their Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco sides drawn to take on each other in Group A.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski’s Bayern Munich have been drawn into Group E alongside Benfica, Ajax and AEK Athens.

Other Poland internationals that fans may see in the Champions League this season include Arkadiusz Milik and Piotr Zieliński (both Napoli), and Maciej Rybus and Grzegorz Krychowiak (both Lokomotiv Moscow), in addition to goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny (Juventus).

Meanwhile, Poland’s own Legia Warsaw club crashed out in the second round of Champions League qualifiers, after being outplayed by Slovak side Spartak Trnava.

The Polish football champions later saw their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League group stage crushed. In mid-August they were eliminated by F91 Dudelange, a semi-professional side from Luxembourg.

The 32 teams in the Champions League group stage will take part in a total of six rounds of fixtures, which begin on September 18 and conclude on December 12.

The Champions League final will be played on June 1 next year in Madrid, Spain.
