Linette was on Friday beaten 2-6, 2-6 by China’s Wang Qiang, the No. 4 seed. The Pole defended two match points and had two chances to break at 2-5 but was ultimately unable to stop her opponent.

Linette, the No. 8 seed, on Thursday beat Slovenia’s Tamara Zidanšek 6-3, 7-6 in the tournament’s round of 16.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Magdalena Fręch was on Tuesday beaten 5-7, 3-6 in the first round of the Japan Women's Open by China’s Zhang Shuai, the No. 1 seed.

Linette and her countrywoman Agnieszka Radwańska both crashed out in the first round of the women's singles at the recent US Open.
